KNOXVILLE PICKLEBALL LEAGUE RULES
The League will be based on level, fair competition using: DUPR LEVEL BASED TEAMS: This refers to a roster composed of a minimum of 2 men and 2 women with a recommendation of up to 3 men and 3 women per team with an average combined DUPR ranking in one of the following levels: 3.0-3.49, 3.5-3.99, 4.0 -4.49. The purpose of more than four players on your roster is because no substitions are allowed.
Each weekly match 2 of the three women and 2 of the three men must be present to compete. The purpose of a six person team is to eliminate substitutes who may or may not be at the same playing level. If five or six of team members are present all team members may compete in the match. IMPORTANT: A team roster of who is playing in each match and the possible DreamMaker tie breaker will given to the opposing team prior to the start of the match. The intent here is to eliminate last minute switching of players as players are stepping onto the court.
The League Commissioner will have final authority on placement of teams and individuals to create even and competitive teams.
THE MATCH PLAY FORMAT:
1 point each for 1 men’s doubles match (2/3 to 11 win by 2), 1 women’s doubles match (2/3 to 11 win by 2), 2 mixed doubles matches (2/3 to 11 win by 2). The men’s and women’s matches will be first followed by the mixed doubles matches.
MAXIMUM SCORE OF 14 - WINNING BY 1
In the event that the team match is tied 2 to 2, a sudden victory round (DreamBreaker)will be played, rally scoring to 21 win by 2, Men v Men (4 points), Women v Women (4 points), Mixed 1 v Mixed 1 (4 points), Mixed 2 v Mixed 2 (4 points) and repeat until one team gets to 21 win by 2. If a team has 5 or 6 members present, that team can designate the four players to represent them. It is up to the team to decide if all team members present will play in the DreamMaker. The entire DreamMaker game will be played rally scoring style, with traditional player rotation. A game can be decided by the receiving team winning a point.
MAXIMUM SCORE OF 25 - WINNING BY 1
COURTS, SEQUENCING AND TIMING: A maximum of 5 minute warm up is allowed before games must start. If the opposing team is not able to start 5 minutes after the posted match start time that match will be forfeited - not the entire match just that individual match. Men’s and Women’s Doubles are played simultaneously on different courts (Approximately 45 minutes max.). Two mixed matches are started five minutes after completion of the gendered doubles on two courts (Approximately 45 minutes). IN the event that a DreamMaker match is needed, it is to begin immediately after the conclusion of the two mixed matches. Rally scoring to 21 is played on a single court (Approximately 20 minutes).
TIME OUTS: Each team is allowed 1 - 1 minute timeout per game. (Players will place paddle on the court in the position they are in on the court at the beginning of the timeout.)
DUPR RATING REQUIRED: All players must have a DUPR rating or attend a rating session. Preseason will include level based challenge courts to establish DUPR ratings (2-3 multi-court, multi hour sessions). If a player does not have a DUPR rating the League Commissioner can evaluate the player individually to asses that persons skill level.
CREATION OF TEAMS: Teams can be entered as an entire team, a partial team or be part of a blind draft. All partial team requests will be honored to the best of our ability, but not guaranteed. A minimum of one week prior to the start of the season a public blind draft will be held to assign those individuals not already on teams to a team.
SCHEDULE: POP outdoor courts (6), Sunday afternoons 12:30-8:30. The season will consist of 6 weeks. In the event of rain, it is the goal of games to be made up on Tuesday/ Wednesday and Thursday evenings. This will require extensive cooperation with all teams and team members. It will not be possible to create a makeup schedule that will accommodate all 100 players, but every attempt will be made to do so.
LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP: The top two teams in each division will play for the League Championship. The top two teams in each division will be determined as follows in sequential order:
Overall win/loss record.
2. In the event of a win/loss record tie -head to head winner.
3. Total cumulative point differential of all games played all season. DreamMaker games will not be added to the point differential as not all teams will have the same number of DreamMakers if any. (All points matter.)
4. Most points scored.
5. Coin Flip - the odds of this would be .001%
CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY
November 9th the top two teams in each division will compete for the division championships. Pizza provided and BYOB! Winners and runners up will both receive medals for their amazing play!
